How We Met
My Mom’s friend who owns a local greenhouse dumped a little, five-week old kitten on my parents’ carport. My Mom called distressed about this “most beautiful kitten” on her carport. My husband Graham who typically resists getting another cat said we could go get it. At the time, we already had three cats, including the elderly Kip. By the time we got to my parents’ house, little Yoshi had tried to nurse on Tucker, a male stray cat my Mom fed. Then, Tucker bravely protected the kitten from a large raccoon. Graham went out with a carrier to try to catch Yoshi. The kitten darted around, faster than anything I’d seen. I cannot remember how Graham tricked him into being caught, but once that kitten went into the carrier, he never knew the hard life again. Our other cats immediately accepted little Yoshi, and just two weeks later, he killed his first mouse. As an adult, Yoshi still nurses on blankets, but he also tries to be brave and “manly” picking fights with Krishna that he knows he’s going to lose. Yoshi is a good-natured fellow, except when he gangs up with Pickles to bully Radha. He has a tendency to wander around the house with a “kill,” which is typically a squeeking grasshopper toy, meowing, which doesn’t really fit the tough cat image he tries to project.
